Crystal Mountain is a small ridge of quartz and calcite crystal located in the desert between the Black Desert and the White Desert, on the circuit from Bahariya Oasis. Though modest in size, the exposed crystals sparkle brilliantly in the sunlight, creating a dazzling natural display against the barren desert landscape. It's a popular photo stop on the desert safari circuit.

What to See
The Crystal Ridge
The 'mountain' is actually a low ridge of rock where erosion has exposed veins of quartz and calcite crystal. In direct sunlight, the crystals catch the light and sparkle intensely — some clear, some milky white, some with a golden tint. The effect is surprisingly beautiful and surreal in the otherwise monochrome desert landscape. The formation is small enough to walk around in 10–15 minutes.
Visitor Tips
- Best seen when the sun is overhead — the crystals sparkle most in direct light
- Do not remove crystals — it's a protected natural site
- A brief stop (15–20 minutes) between the Black and White Deserts
