About this tour

This 3-day White Desert and Farafra Oasis tour from Cairo adds a second desert night and a day further south to the classic Bahariya route. You travel by road from Cairo to Bahariya Oasis, about four hours, and switch to a 4x4 for the desert, with at most six guests per vehicle. The first day crosses the Black Desert with its volcanic hills and stops at Crystal Mountain before you reach the chalk formations of the White Desert and spend the night at an approved desert camp. On day two you continue to Farafra Oasis, a quiet palm oasis far from the usual routes, and spend a second night at an approved camp. Day three brings you back through Bahariya to Cairo. Your local English-speaking desert guide and crew cook all meals: three lunches, two dinners and two breakfasts. Tents, bedding, water and the protected area fees are included. Nights in the desert get cold from November to February, so bring warm layers. Price per person: $335 for 2 guests, $305 for 3, $270 for 4, $250 for 5, $235 for 6, $235 for 7 and $215 for 8. Itinerary

Day 1: Cairo to the White Desert

Road transfer to Bahariya, then by 4x4 through the Black Desert to Crystal Mountain and the White Desert. First night at an approved camp.

Day 2: Farafra Oasis

Drive south to Farafra Oasis and its palm gardens. Second night at an approved camp.

Day 3: Return to Cairo

Back through Bahariya Oasis and the road transfer to Cairo.
